In the meantime, Sweeney also dished out other caveats. This is also the same fate that met the Borderlands franchise. For example, Metro: Last Night and Metro 2033 were heavily criticized by Steam reviewers.īoth games made the drastic jump from Steam to The Epic Games Store. Steam users have also been unforgiving in their review of Epic game titles. As a result, users have vented their ire on Twitter and Reddit, bombarding Epic with scathing messages. Soon after, it appears as an exclusive on The Epic Games Store. This has been aggravated by instances wherein a title already pre-sold on Steam is suddenly pulled out. This situation has resulted in a major tug-of-war between the two digital game storefronts.Įpic’s willy business strategy, however, has somewhat given it an undesirable image in the gaming community. The switch began with The Division 2 followed by Ano 1800. After sealing the deal, the developer moved a majority of its releases from Steam to The Epic Games Store. In fact, Epic scored another win when it was able to forge a partnership with Ubisoft. It was then followed by other prominent games such as Borderlands 3 and Metro Exodus, according to GameSpot. The Epic Games Store has been known to snatch away highly-anticipated indie titles from Steam.įor instance, Ashen, game similar to Souls, was the first to drop from Steam and become an Epic exclusive. If Steam committed to a permanent 88% revenue share for all developers and publishers without major strings attached, Epic would hastily organize a retreat from exclusives (while honoring our partner commitments) and consider putting our own games on Steam. If this materializes, the company CEO said it will be a defining moment in PC gaming history. Sweeney said that if Steam promised to provide developers with an 88 percent revenue share, Epic will stop making exclusives.Īnd if Steam agrees, Epic might even consider putting its own games on Steam, he wrote in a recent tweet. If Valve agrees to this proposal, it will no longer need to worry about games being pulled out from Steam. The Epic Games Store will stop forging exclusivity contracts with developers if Steam commits to equal Epic’s revenue share scheme. PC players can seemingly take comfort in that much knowledge.Tim Sweeney, Epic CEO, remains relentless and seems to be not backing down on the challenge to made to Steam. The game just got reveals of a new and returning character at EVO 2023, but it also seems confirmed that the game won’t have Denuvo strapped to it. It's a sentiment that apparently gets on Harada’s nerves as Bandai Namco continues to carefully prepare Tekken 8. One could argue that the sentiment is earned, but one could also argue that the gaming community goes overboard with its reaction to the very word, “Denuvo”. Resident Evil Village was one such instance where the effects were so notable that Capcom eventually removed Denuvo from the game. There have also been instances where issues rendered some games impossible to play without a digital handshake between the software on a game and Denuvo’s servers. The anti-piracy software has been at the core of many discussions regarding performance effects on games. It’s unmistakable that when Denuvo is mentioned, PC gamers often get riled up. “Stop your tedious allergic reactions to every single thing and sit quietly (sit the hell down).” Harada states plainly that he has no plans to bring Denuvo to Tekken 8, but also tells fans to calm down and stop overreacting to details. “I’ve no plans to introduce Denuvo or anything else in Tekken 8,” Harada said in a quote retweet. He further added some frustration about the bristling of players at the very possibility. What he could claim certainty on was that Tekken 8 likely won’t have Denuvo. According to Harada, much of Tekken 8’s EULA was likely copied from Tekken 7, although he couldn’t claim certainty on the matter. Harada addressed the matter when a Twitter user tagged him in a now-deleted tweet regarding Tekken 8’s EULA, which apparently contained a part about Denuvo being included. He shared as much in a recent tweet, speaking to the End-User License Agreement (EULA) for Tekken 8 and allegations that Denuvo could be in the game. At this point, it should be well-known that a large and loud part of the gaming community abhors Denuvo, and while it seemingly won’t be in Tekken 8, director Katsuhiro Harada finds the conversation around it to be obnoxious.
